Where They Are the Same
On the basics, these two are nearly identical, and that matters for your budget.
Both are self-priming. You can skip a separate primer coat on most previously painted surfaces.
Coverage is the same: 350 to 400 square feet per gallon. You will not get more out of a can of Emerald.
Both carry the full color library, over 1,700 colors, and both keep VOCs low, under 50 g/L. Both also have an exterior version.
For a standard bedroom or living room, SuperPaint gives you nearly everything Emerald does.

Durability and Washability
This is where the premium price of Emerald is real.
Emerald forms the hardest film in the Sherwin-Williams interior lineup. It stands up better to repeated scrubbing.
Its washability is rated excellent. SuperPaint is rated very good, one step below.
Think crayon on a kitchen wall, grease near a stove, handprints in a hallway. Emerald handles those better.
Emerald also includes an antimicrobial interior film that resists mold and mildew. SuperPaint has good mildew resistance, but not that antimicrobial designation.
Finishes and Versatility
Emerald adds a Matte finish that SuperPaint skips. Matte sits between Flat and Satin, hiding flaws while washing better than Flat.
SuperPaint counters with High Gloss, which Emerald interior does not offer. High Gloss suits trim, doors, and cabinets.
SuperPaint also has specialty formulas. One version helps purify indoor air; another is built to sanitize high-contact surfaces. Emerald has none of those.

Emerald runs about $85 to $90 per gallon. SuperPaint runs about $66 to $77.

Use Emerald in kitchens, bathrooms, and any high-traffic area that gets scrubbed or steamed often. The harder, antimicrobial film justifies the cost there.
Use SuperPaint in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, and offices. Those rooms see light traffic, so very good washability is plenty.
Hallways and kids rooms fall in the middle. If it takes a beating, go Emerald. If it is light-use, SuperPaint is fine.
